How to Store Red Meat?
Red meat is a type of meat that can spoil easily and very quickly when suitable conditions are not provided. For this reason, it is extremely important to know how to store red meat, which can cause serious food poisoning when consumed spoiled.

How Long Can Meat Be Stored in the Deep Freezer?

Putting freshly slaughtered red meat directly into the refrigerator is quite wrong. Newly cut, fresh meat should be left outside for 3–4 hours to allow it to release all its blood. Meat that has reached room temperature and released its blood should then be placed in the refrigerator.

If red meat has been minced, it is important to consume it within a short time. Minced meat should not be left for more than 4–5 hours. However, if it still needs to be stored, it should be kept in a container completely covered with vegetable oil. This period should be a maximum of 7 days.

After red meat is cooked, it should be consumed completely within 2 days at the latest. Meat that has been kept for more than 2 days after cooking should not be eaten, even if it has been stored in the refrigerator.

Deep freezers are highly important for storing red meat. Deep freezers extend the storage life of red meat; however, meat prepared for long-term storage in a deep freezer should also be thinly sliced or divided into pieces suitable for this process. Storing thick pieces in the deep freezer may not prevent spoilage.

There are several points to consider when storing meat with bones. First of all, storing bone-in meat in small pieces is extremely important for extending its storage life. During storage, the meat should be placed in refrigerator bags and wrapped in cling film so that it does not come into contact with air.

It is normal to forget when we put meat in the deep freezer. Therefore, noting the date the meat was placed in the freezer and attaching the note to the meat can be very helpful. Meat should not remain in the deep freezer for more than 6 months. For this reason, meat placed in the deep freezer should be consumed within 6 months.

Meat removed from the deep freezer for use should not be cooked immediately; it should also be brought to room temperature gradually. First, the meat should be moved to the refrigerator’s regular compartment, then taken out and left at room temperature. Depending on the circumstances, thawing the meat in a microwave oven before use is also an option.
